The weather was not very inviting with sleet falling but still 15 guests came to the SCSK. A big thanks to the cook from Lifewise for her delicious southwestern taco soup and to the volunteers who braved the bad elements to participate.
There is an article featuring the SCSK in the Times Daily today (Saturday January 23, 2010). It is a wonderfully written article and it captures the spirit of all the community effort and goodwill that has gone into this project. Thanks to all the volunteers who allowed themselves to be quoted and photographed. Thanks to First Presbyterian Church for its commitment to hosting this mission. If you or your church/organization would like to help please leave contact information with the office at First Presbyterian or you may leave your contact information under the comment section.
We are still seeing large number of guests...48 today. Thanks to Westminster Presbyterian for taco soup, crackers, congealed salad and cookies. Watch for an article about the Soup Kitchen in this Saturday's Times Daily.
We are so happy that First United Methodist Church volunteers will be participating with us this year. On this extremely cold day, they served 15 bean soup, cheese toast, fresh fruit and cookies to the 25 guests that managed to brave the weather. Thanks for the hot meal!
Trinity Episcopal started the new year off with collard greens, black-eyed peas, pork shoulder, macaroni and cheese, cornbread muffins and dessert. Wow! We only had 21 guests but lots of laughter and goodwill.
